Better measure CSF pressure at bedside

X-PRESSURE is a medical device to measure cerebrospinal fluid pressure to better diagnose brain diseases.

Lumbar puncture is usually performed in clinical practice to gain access to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to diagnose disorders of the central nervous system.

Lumbar puncture allows to withdraw CSF samples to carry on biological and biochemical analyses. But lumbar puncture allows also to gauge CSF pressure and brain biomechanics at the tip of the needle.

Lumbar CSF pressure is a surrogate marker of intracranial pressure in lateral position. Measuring lumbar CSF pressure is clinically relevant, but performed in routine with a water column, which is an historical procedure. To improve accuracy and reliability, lumbar CSF pressure can be measured electronically, but it requires complex devices.

We developed X-PRESSURE, an accurate, reliable, easy-to-use and connected medical device to facilitate the measurement and analysis of CSF pressure at bedside.

Intracranial hypertension

Pressure of the lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), was first measured by Quincke in 1891 with a tube connected to a lumbar needle. Pressure was gauged as water column. Normal lumbar CSF pressure is 10 to 25 cm of water (7.2 to 16.8 of mercury).

More than 130 years after Quincke’s seminal publication, lumbar CSF pressure, which is a valid surrogate marker of intracranial pressure, is still measured with a water column worldwide.

Raised intracranial pressure can be due to intracranial haematoma, brain tumour, meningitis due to infection or inflammation, hydrocephalus, arteriovenous malformation, venous sinus thrombosis or intoxication, that might result in severe morbidities such as vision loss, chronic pain or neurological deficit.

Therefore it is important to measure and record reliably CSF pressure with a lumbar needle.

How does it work?

#1

Connect X-PRESSURE sensor to the end of the lumbar puncture needle.

#2

Measure opening pressure.

#3

Continuous measurement & recording on a secure mobile application.

#4

Analysis & interpretation of data using X-PRESSURE artificial intelligence.

IN A FEW MINUTES, YOU HAVE ALL THE KEY INFORMATION YOU NEED TO MAKE THE RIGHT DIAGNOSIS.
